Kraljevica

Kraljevica is located in the county of Primorje-Gorski Kotar, 20 km south of Rijeka and at the entrance to the Bay of Bakar. The most powerful Croatian noble families from medieval times, the Zrinskis and Frankopans ruled this area. There are some exceptionally beautiful feudal castles from this period.

The castle of Stari grad was built in the first half of the 17th century, and is located right in the centre of Kraljevica, and Novi grad, also known as Castle Frankopan, attracts the attention of even the most temporary of passersby with its beauty and position above the shoreline.

Tourism already started to develop in the 19th century when the Austrian Count Ollschbaur built the first hotel, which was later converted into a resort. The preserved clean sea, tidy beaches, and above all cultural events, has meant that many famous artists have found their peace here, and painted their most beautiful marina.

Today, Kraljevica is a naval and ship building centre on the Adriatic, and the beautiful bays of Dubno and Scott with their well looked after campsites attract many tourists.
